Tooting Our Own Horn

One of my favorite quotes comes from Senator Robert (“Bob”) Dole when he was running for President. In one of the Republican debates he made the following comment:

“If you don’t tooteth your own horn it won’t be tootethed”*

In many respects there is no truer quote. So, today we toot our own horn.

Having the blog these past 3 years has been a real blessing and a joy. We have met so many people from all over the world and experienced countless new food experiences because of knowing each one of you. Unfortunately, life has been very harried and hectic for us the last 14 months resulting in fewer posts and less time to read the blogs we follow. For our friends and those of you following the blog, we apologize. I assure you we are still cooking up a storm and taking a few photos. The difficulty is trying to put it all together in an enjoyable, informative and readable post. We simply have not had the time and are exhausted when the weekend rolls around. Hopefully, sooner rather than later, things will get back to an even keel and the posting, liking and commenting will increase back to normal. In the meantime, however, we’re glad to see people still reading the blog and commenting. Thanks for sticking with us.

As for tooting out own horn, recently, we were blessed to be featured in Richardson Living Magazine along with 2 other very nice bloggers in the Richardson Community. Unlike the other featured blogs, REMCooks is not a profit center, not to say having a blog for a profit center is a bad thing because it’s not. So we were thrilled when we were contacted by Richardson Living Magazine and asked if we minded being featured in its May/June 2015 Foodie Issue. Of course, we told them we would love to be featured. For those of you having followed the blog for a long time, there is nothing new. We are just super proud Richardson Living Magazine selected REMCooks for its Foodie Issue. The article is below. 😀

* The quote is Bob Dole’s attempt at a Damon Runyon quote from Guys & Dolls. “He who tooteth not his own horn, the same shall not be tooted.”

Of course, my brother, John, has the equally important corollary, He who impresses himself impresses easily. 😀

  1. Looks like you’re not the only one tooting your horn, when Richardson’s opted to feature your blog in their magazine. Congratulations and well deserved!

    1. Thanks Kathryn. We still do many of the things we want to do. We just don’t have time to post about cooking and travel is currently out of the question. All things in time though.

        1. Good. We have some other goodies to send your way soon. 🙂 I meant to send them earlier but I figured Christmas in Summer would be more fun. 😀

  2. Excellent Richard. Well deserved. I love the shot of the corn used to footer the page. I do hope life gets back to some degree of normality for you soon. I do understand what you are going through. We must talk one of these days.
    Stay well all of you.

    1. Thanks Conor. I was really shocked they wanted as many photos from the blog. They really did look at it. As for normalcy, I have come to the conclusion it is a state of mind. I just wish I wasn’t so exhausted when the weekend rolls around. Nonetheless, life is always good. How can it not be? I am married to my sweetheart, dream girl, love of my life and soulmate who puts up with my shenanigans and disposition. 🙂 Even in the darkest hours she brightens the sky. You can never do better than that.

  3. Congratulations Richard, you certainly do deserve the recognition. I’m happy to see that you are out in the blog world again. I know that life gets in the way sometimes…you have been missed but not forgotten.
